This week I have been mostly reading...

Or rather buying, since I've only embarked upon actually reading a few of the following:

Orwell's Homage to Catalonia
Francis Wheen's Karl Marx
Eric Hobsbawm's Age of Extremes
JG Ballard's Millenium People
Slavoj Zizek's Welcome to the Desert of the Real
John Gray's Straw Dogs
Martin Amis' Koba the Dread
CLR James' Beyond a Boundary

(Some real posts to come soon, I promise. And, while you're reading, I should explain that for some reason Blogger wouldn't let me post the last three posts as one long post without fucking up the whole blog, hence the "parts".  But then maybe they made my nonsense a bit more digestible?)

Comments:
You bought all of them! And you a student! Books cheap in Ireland are they or do you know some crafty shoplifter? I'm lucky if I can buy one book a bleedin month. And the local library is shite as well.

Cheap? No, though Amis was on sale at a fiver (euros - about 3 pound, I think) which was why I got it. Bit of a gorge alright. But I'm a working man for the next month or so, though God knows I can't afford to be spending €80 or so on books not, not to mention the two CDs I got (Grandmaster Flash and Jim White, since you ask).

The best of being a student is the great library, but I'm damned if I'm going in there over the summer. Plus the bastards are demanding money for some article I supposedly didn't return...
